Hi I'm Steven! I am a first year MSc Computing Science student at the University of Alberta. I am part of Adam White's group in the Reinforcement Learning and Artificial Intelligence Lab at the University of Alberta.

Deep reinforcement learning algorithms have the capability to discover novel solutions with superhuman performance. However, they are limited in that they do not adapt well in the continual learning setting. I seek to improve continual learning for deep reinforcement learning, so that learning agents can be readily applied to real-world problems. It is also important to me that I approach problems with scientific rigour and evaluate methods with proper empirical methods.

The reason I am passionate about artificial intelligence and machine learning is because they have the potential to generate tremendous positive impact through accelerating scientific discovery, and solving numerous real-world problems to make the world a better place to live in for all.

I work as a junior data engineer at Trust Science. I've also previously worked on projects in the areas of bioinformatics, computer vision, robotics, and large language models.

In my free time I enjoy reading and walking in the river valley.
